The Flight to Nowhere

The "flight to nowhere" sold out in just ten minutes, with Qantas Airways declaring it the fastest-selling ticket in the airline's history. By nature, humans are constantly on the move, always aiming for new destinations. But what happens when the world comes to a standstill, as it did during the COVID-19 pandemic? One group chose to address this question in a unique way by embarking on a "flight to nowhere."

Tickets for this unusual journey ranged from $575 for economy seats to $2,675 for first-class. So, what did passengers receive in exchange? They enjoyed a seven-hour flight, circling over Australia, only to land right back where they started. This experience was a product of the COVID-19 era, as people grew tired of being confined to their homes. In response to months of going nowhere, they spent hundreds of dollars to—ironically—go nowhere.
