Deceitful Hearts and Desert Shrubs

We may find it hard to believe Jeremiah’s words that the heart is “deceitful above all things.” We would rather look outward and think,

Yes, others may be quite foolish and misguided. But I have a good head on my shoulders.

We are reasonable and rational people, after all, who make thoughtful and considered decisions. If we've made poor choices we'd rather think,

My poor choices aren't my fault. I was ignorant or deceived.
