Some stories, however, have been handed down to us. For some, we were not yet cognizant, and for others, we weren’t even born when experiences, memories, and stories affected our family and communities. We began to carry those stories in ourselves. In Deuteronomy the children of Israel carried a story of escape and liberation that they themselves never saw but was handed to them by parents and grandparents. 

Today, the field of epigenetics is beginning to discover that emotional damage through experience—abuse or other trauma done to parents—can be passed on to their children…
