Prayers of Confession on Witness

Eternal and everlasting God, we confess that we often forget we are Your children. At times, we live our lives as if You don’t exist, and we fall short of being credible witnesses of Your love and grace For the times we have failed You, we ask Your forgiveness. Clear our minds and open our hearts so that we may be faithful to You in everything we say and do. We ask all this in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Dear Lord, we come before You today as Your children. We praise You as the God of all creation and the giver of life. You have made us, saved us, and called us to be Your people and to serve in Your Kingdom work. We confess that we too often have forgotten that we belong to You. We try to live our lives as if we were actually in charge of them and forget or ignore You. Too many times we aren’t good witnesses to Your love and we don’t always do our part to engage with the world. Please forgive us. Change our hearts so that we would live for You first. Give us the courage and strength to live our faith and serve Your world. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen

Gracious God,
we ask for Your forgiveness
and receive it with joyful hearts.
Renew our minds
so that we may discern what is good.
Fill us with Your Spirit
so that we may be
Your witnesses in the world.
Comfort our hearts,
that we may know that we have
complete redemption by Your grace alone.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Holy God
We are holy,
Not in the sense of any rightness within us,
But because we are in a relationship with you,
We are holy because you gift that it is so.
We are not called to into a division of us and them,
People should see you in us,
Just as we should see ourselves in each other.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we often forget Who it is that we worship. You, Lord, are the great God Almighty and our Heavenly Father. Yet, at times, we deny that truth by living in fear and responding negatively to our circumstances.  For these transgressions we ask Your forgiveness and we also ask for Your strength. Remind us to be who You would have us to be regardless of our situations or our emotions. Give us eyes to see You as You really are so we might be bold witnesses in our world. We ask this humbly in Christ’s name.  Amen.

Gracious, almighty God, we think of John the Baptist, who was a faithful witness to you. He understood that this role was pointing people toward you and not himself. Yet we know that all too often we elevate ourselves. We don’t deflect the glory that comes our way while we are all too eager to pass responsibility and blame to others. Please give us humility and help us to point people toward you as we silently confess our sins to you now….
