Witness

Adapted from Isaiah 43:10-13 (ESV)

Pastor: “’You are my witnesses,’ declares the LORD, ‘and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.

All: I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.

Pastor: I declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you; and you are my witnesses,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I am God.

All: Also henceforth I am he; there is none who can deliver from my hand; I work, and who can turn it back?’”

Adapted from Luke 24:44-47a

Pastor: Jesus said, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

All: Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

Pastor: And Jesus said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

All: You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you.”

Adapted from Acts 1:8

Jesus said, “And you will receive power,

When the Holy Spirit Comes on you.

And you will be my witnesses.

In Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Holy Spirit, on this Pentecost Sunday, we claim your power.

And the things you have heard me say

In the presence of many witnesses

Entrust to reliable people

Who will also be qualified to teach others.

Lord, as we worship you today, empower us to pass on what you have done in us to others.
