Prayers of Confession on Vision

Gracious and Loving God, we come into Your presence asking for Your forgiveness. Forgive us for aspirations that never get translated into action and for promises that we have not kept. Forgive us for having good intentions that were not fulfilled and for the good deeds that we never got around to doing. Grant us a new vision and help us to move from intention to action. Help us, Lord, to keep our eyes on You and to be faithful in all that we say and do. In Christ’s Name we pray. Amen.

Eternal and everlasting God, we confess that we often forget we are Your children. At times, we live our lives as if You don’t exist, and we fall short of being credible witnesses of Your love and grace For the times we have failed You, we ask Your forgiveness. Clear our minds and open our hearts so that we may be faithful to You in everything we say and do. We ask all this in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Almighty, gracious God, we confess to you that we do not see what you see. You are ever-present, speaking, coaxing, prodding, leading, guiding, and motivating. Yet that is not enough. Like the stubborn people of Israel, we complain and do things our own way. Please give us grace, forgive us for our pride, and help us to see with your vision.

O God of the ages, you have created each of us uniquely.  We each have so much that makes us interesting and unique!  Yet at times, even against our own wishes, we find ourselves falling prey to the -isms that undermine our society:  racism, sexism, classism, anti-Semitism, and too many others. Pardon us for categorizing each other so quickly, easily, and harmfully. Help us to see each other as individuals, through your eyes of love. We pray that you would forgive our sins—these and all others—as we continue to pray in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Gracious God, sometimes I think that I can figure out all the consequences of my decisions. I can become overly impressed with what I perceive to be my strategic vision and analysis. Forgive me for my hubris, my arrogance, my foolishness.

Lord, please give me the humility before you, realizing that I cannot fully predict, much less control, the future.

Thank you, Lord, for the times when you redeem my mistakes, when you take the unintended and work it into your grand intentions for the world. Thank you for being a God who sees us, who is present, and who is ever merciful and gracious. Amen.

Lord, you came to dwell among us, yet we did not recognize you. We still fail to recognize you. You show up in unexpected places and through unexpected people. We fail to see you in the people who are different from us. We fail to see you in the life you call us to live. Please open our eyes to your presence and open our hearts to your leading as we silently confess our sins to you now….

Lord Jesus Christ, you reveal God to us, yet we are sometimes repulsed, bored, or exhausted by what we see. We become jaded to your work in the world, and our eyes glaze over rather than getting excited by your revelations.  You manifest yourselves to us through the scriptures, in quiet prayers, and in wise counsel. Yet we are slow to listen, and we ignore these epiphanies.  We need your Spirit’s strength to open our eyes and soften our hearts. Forgive us these and all our sins, as we continue to confess in silence…

Silient Prayer.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

LORD, too often we live for ourselves instead of how You have called us. Please forgive us for the times when we don’t strive to bring about Your kingdom here and now. Forgive us for the lack of imaginative vision bring about Your amazing plans You have for Your creation. Give us new eyes to see the world around us as we silently confess our sins to You now…

Almighty and Gracious God, You call us to pray to You. You desire to hear our praises and petitions. But we are reluctant to come before You in love, joy, and obedience. Our prayers often reflect our self-centeredness and limited vision. Our praises are repeatedly half-hearted and perfunctory. Our requests frequently reveal more about our will for our lives, not Your will. We find it most difficult to trust and believe. Forgive us for our sin and free us from its chains. Enable us to pray in Your power to the glory and honor of Your holy name. Amen.

Dear God, we come before You admitting that it is easy to lose sight of what is true according to Your Word. Forgive us when we judge others. Forgive us when pride and our worldly definition of success causes division in our relationships. Show us how to love people well and to daily keep our eyes focused on You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
