Calls To Worship

Maundy Thursday

Adapted from Psalm 34:1-4, 8 (ESV)

Pastor: I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

All: My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.

Pastor: Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

All: I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Pastor: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!

All: Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Submitted by Dustin Ray (ESV, adapted for liturgical use)

Adapted from Acts 2:42-46

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.

All the believers were together and had everything in common.

They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.

They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

Adapted from Philippians 2:5-8

Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing, by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death —even death on a cross!

We Need to Linger, a Call to Worship for Holy Week

Before we get to Easter, we need to linger:

in the vulnerability of the basin and the towel

at the remembrance and promise of the table

in the struggle and betrayal of the garden

in the shadows and shouts of injustice

at the bloody brutal beautiful cross

in the silence of linen and spices and death

For without these, the empty tomb is empty

In the midst of all you are facing
Your burdens
Your responsibilities
Your hustle
Hear the invitation
“Come to the Table”

In the midst of all you are facing
Your longing
Your ambition
Your distractions
Hear the invitation
“Come to the Table”

In the midst of all you are facing
Your longing
Your ambition
Your distractions
Hear the invitation
“Come to the Table”

Listen…
Listen……
Grace is calling
Come, the feast awaits

This is the day that Christ, the Lamb of God,

gave himself into the hands of those who would slay him.

This is that day that Christ gathered with his disciples in the Upper Room.

This is the day that Christ took a towel and washed his disciples’ feet,

giving us an example that we should do to others as he has done to us.

This is the day that Christ our God gave us this holy feast,

that we who eat this bread and drink this cup may here proclaim

his holy sacrifice and be partakers of his resurrection

and at the last day may reign with him in heaven.

Leader: Taste and see that the Lord is good.

People: Happy are all who take refuge in him.

Leader: Let us bring our praise to God.
