Calls To Worship

Glory

Adapted from Psalm 8 (WEB)

Leader: Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

People: You have set your glory above the heavens!

Leader: From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength,

because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

People: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;

what is humankind, that you think of them?

Leader: What are human beings that you care for them?

People: For you have made him a little lower than the angels,

and crowned him with glory and honor.

Leader: You make them rulers over the works of your hands.

You have put all things under their feet:

People: All sheep and cattle,

yes, and the animals of the field,

the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea,

and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

Leader: Oh Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Adapted from Psalm 8:1-4,9

Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory

in the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants

you have established a stronghold against your enemies,

to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them?

Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Adapted From Psalm 24

Lift up your heads, O you gates;

be lifted up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory?

The LORD strong and mighty,

the LORD mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O you gates;

lift them up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in.

 Adapted from Psalm 47:1-2, 5-6, NRSV

Clap your hands, all you peoples;

shout to God with loud songs of joy.

For the LORD, the Most High, is awesome,

a great king over all the earth.

God has gone up with a shout,

the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises;

sing praises to our King, sing praises.

 Responsive Prayer from Psalm 29

Give the Lord the glory due his name;

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters:

The God of glory thunders:

The Lord is upon many waters.

The voice of the Lord is powerful;

The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare.

And in his temple all cry, “Glory!” 9NIV

The Lord sits upon the flood; the Lord sits as King forever.

The Lord will give strength to his people;

The Lord will bless his people with peace.

(Adapted for modern liturgical use from Ps 29:1-4, 7, 8, 10-11 (KJV), Ps 29:9 (NIV))

Adapted from Psalm 66:1-2, 4, NRSV

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;

sing the glory of his name;

give to him glorious praise.

All the earth worships you;

they sing praises to you,

sing praises to your name.

 Adapted from Psalm 72

Leader: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.

People: Blessed be your glorious name forever, God, may your glory fill the whole earth.

Leader: Come, Let us worship God!

Adapted from Psalm 86

Leader: Come, let us enter into God’s presence.

People:   Lord, I am here, waiting. Let me hear Your voice; for I am poor, and needy in spirit. Be gracious to me, gladden the soul of Your servant, for to You do I cry all day long – to You, I lift up my soul.

Teach me Your way, Lord, that I may walk in Your truth. Give me an undivided heart to revere Your name. For great is Your steadfast love toward me. You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Lord, You are good and forgiving. There is none like You.

Lord, all the nations shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous things. You alone are God. I give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify Your name forever.

Adapted from Psalm 95

LEADER: Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
PEOPLE: Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

LEADER: For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.
PEOPLE: In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
LEADER: The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

PEOPLE: Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
ALL: for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

Adapted from Psalm 104:24-34, 35b (NRSV)

Leader: O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.

People: These all look to you to give them their food in due season; when you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.

Leader: May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works–who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke.

People: We will sing to the Lord as long as we live; we will sing praise to our God while we have being. May our meditation be pleasing to him, for we rejoice in the Lord. Bless the Lord, O our souls. Let us praise the Lord!

Scott Bullock

 Adapted from multiple scriptures on Light and Darkness

Leader: Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you.”

People: Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

Leader: “If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.”

People: For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon us and His glory will appear over us.

Leader: “While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”

People: Nations shall come to our light, and kings to the brightness of our dawn.

Leader: Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

People: Then we shall see and be radiant. The sun shall no longer be our light by day, nor shall the moon give light to us by night; but the Lord will be our everlasting light, and our God will be our glory.

Adapted from Revelation 4:2, 6, 8-11

Pastor: At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, and day and night they never cease to say,

All: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

Pastor: And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

All: “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

Gracious, almighty God, we think of John the Baptist, who was a faithful witness to you. He understood that this role was pointing people toward you and not himself. Yet we know that all too often we elevate ourselves. We don’t deflect the glory that comes our way while we are all too eager to pass responsibility and blame to others. Please give us humility and help us to point people toward you as we silently confess our sins to you now….

Wake up! Get out of bed!

Feel the sunlight on your face!

God’s bright glory has risen for you.

But the earth is dark. Everywhere we look there is selfishness sin, greed, death, destruction.

You don’t have to be part of that. Why waste your lives on the things you “must” do in the darkness where no one will see? See how attractive those fake activities look in the light of Christ!

But God rises on you; his sunrise glory breaks over you.

We know that God is our saviour, our redeemer, our champion!

We’ll no longer need the sun during the day and the moon at night: God will be our light.

Christ has made it happen; his bright light makes the way clear.

Jacob Traeger

Adapted from Psalm 29

People: The God of glory thunders. The voice of the Lord is powerful and full of majesty.

Leader: May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!
