Calls To Worship

Death

Adapted from Psalm 90

Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.

You turn us back to dust, and say, “Turn back, you mortals.”

For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it has past, or like a watching in the night.

So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.

Adapted from Psalm 90:12-14

Teach us to number our days

That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Relent, Lord! How long will it be?

Have compassion on your servants.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love

That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Adapted from Ecclesiastes 3

There is a time for everything,

And a season for every activity under the heavens.

A time to be born and a time to die,

A time to plant and a time to uproot,

A time to tear down and a time to build,

A time to mourn and a time to dance,

A time to keep and a time to through away,

A time to be silent and a time to speak.

Spirit of wisdom, please help us to know when.

Adapted from Philippians 2

Leader: Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though He was in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,

People: But emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.

Leader: And being found in human form, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death-even death on the cross.

People: Therefore God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name,

Leader: So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth; and under the earth,

People: And every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Leader: So let us join in singing our praise.

Adapted from Revelation 21:3-6

Leader:            Look!  God’s dwelling is here with humankind.  God dwells with us, and we are God’s people.

People:           God will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Death will be no more.

There will be no more mourning, crying, or pain anymore.

Leader             The One on the throne proclaims, “Look, I’m making all things new!”

People:           Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

All:                  Let us worship God!

Adapted from Genesis 3:19, Matthew 24:36

 From dust you have come,

And to dust you shall return.

But about that day or hour

No one knows.

Not even the angels in heaven,

Nor the Son, but only the Father.

Lord of all, we submit ourselves to your merciful care this day.

The choice is before us: life or death.

Let us choose life so that we may live.

To Jesus we cry: Cleanse us, oh Lord!

By the mercy of Christ we are made clean.

This is the hope that we proclaim:

That Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.

Who will save us from the ways of death?

Jesus Christ our Lord; thanks be to God!

God’s grace is sufficient for us;

In Christ, the week are made strong.

Weeping may linger for the night,

But joy comes with the morning.

Psalm 30:1-5, New Living Translation

Leader: I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me.

People: O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health.

Leader: You brought me up from the grave, O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death.

People: Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name.

Leader: For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime!

People: Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Adapted from Psalm 103:1-4, New Living Translation

Leader: Let all that I am praise the Lord;

People: With my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Leader: Let all that I am praise the Lord;

People: May I never forget the good things he does for me.

Leader: He forgives all my sins

People: and heals all my diseases.

Leader: He redeems me from death

People: and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
