Sandra L. Richter (PhD, Harvard University) is a distinguished scholar and educator, recognized for her expertise in Old Testament studies, particularly her work on the book of Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomistic history. Currently, she holds the Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College, where she is highly regarded for her engaging teaching style and depth of scholarship. Richter also serves as a member of the Committee on Biblical Translation for the New International Version (NIV), where she contributes her expertise to the translation of Scripture.

Richter’s academic contributions have had a significant impact on both the scholarly community and the broader church. She is best known for her widely acclaimed book The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament (2008), which serves as an accessible introduction to the Old Testament for churchgoers and students alike. Through The Epic of Eden, Richter invites readers to explore the overarching narrative of Scripture and understand the Old Testament in light of its theological and historical context. The book’s success led to a series of video courses that have furthered her mission to make Old Testament scholarship accessible and relevant to a wider audience.

In addition to her work in Old Testament studies, Richter has written Stewards of Eden: What Scripture Says About the Environment and Why It Matters (2020), a thought-provoking exploration of the biblical perspective on the environment and human responsibility for creation. Her newest project, Abigail and the Waterfall: Loving God’s Good Earth, is a children's book aimed at teaching young readers the importance of stewarding God’s creation with care and reverence.

Sandra L. Richter’s work continues to inspire and challenge Christians to engage deeply with Scripture, understand God’s plan for creation, and live out their calling to care for the world around them. Through her books, courses, and public speaking, she has become a leading voice in biblical studies and Christian environmental stewardship.
