W. David O. Taylor
W. David O. Taylor is a theologian, author, and professor whose work focuses on the intersection of theology, worship, and the arts. He serves as Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he directs initiatives that explore how the arts enrich and deepen Christian worship and discipleship. A passionate advocate for the role of imagination in the life of faith, Taylor has become a leading voice in helping the Church engage the arts in meaningful and transformative ways.
Born and raised in Guatemala as the son of missionaries, Taylor developed a deep appreciation for the global Church and its cultural expressions of faith. He later moved to the United States, where he pursued his theological education, earning degrees from Regent College in Vancouver and completing his doctoral studies at Duke Divinity School.
Taylor’s writing and teaching reflect his conviction that beauty and creativity are essential to worship and theological reflection. He is the author of several books, including The Theater of God’s Glory: Calvin, Creation, and the Liturgical Arts, Open and Unafraid: The Psalms as a Guide to Life, and For the Beauty of the Church: Casting a Vision for the Arts, the latter of which he also edited. His works combine rigorous scholarship with accessible insights, equipping both scholars and practitioners to integrate theology and the arts in practical ways.
In addition to his academic work, Taylor is a sought-after speaker and curator of events that bring together artists, pastors, and theologians to explore how creativity and worship intersect. His commitment to cultivating a richer imagination within the Church has made a significant impact on communities worldwide.
Taylor lives in Texas with his wife, Phaedra, an artist, and their children. Together, they seek to embody a life of creativity, hospitality, and faithfulness.
