Soong-Chan Rah
Soong-Chan Rah (ThD, Duke Divinity School) is a respected theologian, author, and advocate for social justice, who serves as the Milton B. Engebretson Professor of Church Growth and Evangelism at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. With a heart for both the Church and broader society, Rah has committed his life to reshaping the ways evangelicalism engages with race, culture, and mission. He is passionate about advocating for the marginalized and addressing issues of racial justice, particularly within Christian communities.
Rah earned his Doctor of Theology (ThD) from Duke Divinity School, where he focused on the intersection of theology and culture. His academic journey and ministry have been deeply influenced by his own experience as a second-generation Korean-American, giving him a unique perspective on the complexities of identity, community, and faith in a multicultural context.
He is the author of several influential books, including The Next Evangelicalism, which challenges the predominantly white evangelical movement in the United States to consider the voices and experiences of people of color, and Prophetic Lament, which calls the Church to lament and address the injustices and suffering present in society. Rah’s writings have contributed to the broader conversation about how the Church can more effectively live out its calling in a pluralistic, multicultural world.
In addition to his academic work, Rah is a sought-after speaker and has spoken at churches, conferences, and universities across the nation. He is also the founder of a community dedicated to engaging the Church in conversations about race, justice, and reconciliation. Soong-Chan Rah’s work continues to inspire Christians to reimagine what it means to live out the gospel in a way that is inclusive, just, and reflective of the diverse world we inhabit.
