R. C. Sproul

R. C. Sproul (1939–2017) was an influential American theologian, pastor, author, and apologist whose profound impact on Christian thought continues to resonate worldwide. He founded Ligonier Ministries in 1971 as a resource center for Reformed theology, with a mission to help people grow in their knowledge of God and live out their faith. Through this ministry, Sproul became widely recognized for his ability to make deep theological truths understandable and relevant to everyday Christians.

Sproul authored more than 100 books, including the acclaimed The Holiness of God, Chosen by God, and Essential Truths of the Christian Faith. These works addressed topics such as God’s sovereignty, grace, and the authority of Scripture, establishing him as a leading voice in the modern Reformed movement. His writings and teachings have shaped countless pastors, theologians, and laypeople, bridging the gap between academic theology and the life of the church.

In addition to his books, Sproul was a beloved teacher, hosting the widely broadcast radio program Renewing Your Mind, which brought theological education into homes and churches across the globe. His teaching style—marked by clarity, passion, and a deep reverence for Scripture—made complex theological concepts accessible to audiences of all levels.

Throughout his career, Sproul emphasized the authority and inerrancy of the Bible, the centrality of the gospel, and the doctrines of grace, which he believed were essential for a robust Christian faith. He served as a pastor at Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Florida, where he combined his love for teaching with pastoral ministry.

Sproul’s legacy includes his role in the resurgence of Reformed theology in the 20th and 21st centuries. His commitment to the truth of God’s Word and his passion for making theology understandable continue to inspire Christians around the world.
