Noah Webster
Noah Webster (1758–1843) was an American educator, and author, best known for his pioneering work in developing American English. Often called the “Father of American Scholarship and Education,” Webster published the first comprehensive American dictionary in 1828, An American Dictionary of the English Language, which standardized American spelling and language. His efforts also extended to education, where his Blue-Backed Speller became a widely used textbook for generations of American schoolchildren. A strong advocate for education reform, Webster’s contributions significantly shaped American identity and literacy in the formative years of the United States.
