Emmanuel Katongole and Chris Rice

Emmanuel Katongole
Emmanuel Katongole is a distinguished theologian, author, and priest whose work focuses on reconciliation, social justice, and the intersection of faith and public life, particularly in the African context. Born in Uganda, Katongole is a Catholic priest ordained in the Kampala Archdiocese. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy and Theology from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and his academic journey has been marked by a passion for bridging theological reflection with real-world challenges.

Katongole serves as a professor of theology and peace studies at the University of Notre Dame's Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. His research addresses issues such as ethnic conflict, ecological sustainability, and the role of the church in fostering hope and transformation in contexts of suffering. Among his influential works are Reconciling All Things (co-authored with Chris Rice) and The Sacrifice of Africa: A Political Theology for Africa.

Known for his profound insight and storytelling, Katongole highlights how Christian communities can embody alternative visions of peace, justice, and human flourishing. His ministry and scholarship are deeply informed by his experiences in Africa, offering a perspective that challenges global Christianity to engage meaningfully with the realities of violence and oppression.
