Gathering to Give Thanks
Thanksgiving Day is a rare holiday dedicated to an action or attitude — giving thanks — and for Christians, a vitally important one. We are reminded again and again in scripture to give thanks and we do have a lot to be thankful for, from the meeting of our material needs to the salvation bought through the blood of Jesus.
As much as the thanksgiving itself can get lost amid the feasting and family, not to mention the chaos of the beginning of the holiday shopping season, the holiday of Thanksgiving gives pastors an opportunity to highlight in sermons and worship the gratitude and thankfulness from which it takes its name.
