Augustine of Hippo
He who denies the existence of God, has some reason for wishing that God did not exist.
Perhaps you began to question God’s love or His wisdom. Maybe you were afraid to say that He was wrong, but you sort of said, “God, you deceived me in letting me believe that this was the right thing to do. Why didn’t you stop me?” A whole lot of wrong things can happen if you try to look at God from the middle of circumstances.
I agree with people like Richard Dawkins that mankind felt the need for creation myths. Before we really began to understand disease and the weather and things like that, we sought false explanations for them. Now science has filled in some of the realm – not all – that religion used to fill. But the mystery and the beauty of the world is overwhelmingly amazing, and there’s no scientific explanation of how it came about. To say that it was generated by random numbers, that does seem, you know, sort of an uncharitable view [laughs]. I think it makes sense to believe in God, but exactly what decision in your life you make differently because of it, I don’t know.
In the Christian view, the ultimate evidence for the existence of God is Jesus Christ. If there is a God, we characters in his play have to hope that he put some information about himself in the play. But Christians believe he did more than give us information. He wrote himself into the play as the main character in history, when Jesus was born in a manger and rose from the dead.
C. S. Lewis
There have been men before now who got so interested in proving the existence of God that they came to care nothing for God Himself.
R. C. Sproul
The main problem with those who deny the existence of God is not intellectual. It is not because of insufficient information, or that God’s manifestation of himself in nature has been obscured. The atheists’ problem is not that they cannot know God, rather it is they do not want to know him. Man’s problem with the existence of God is not an intellectual problem; it is a moral problem.” For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men – Rom. 1:18″
O God, if there is a God, have mercy on my soul, if there is a soul.
William Butler Yeats
Some say there is a God, others say there is no God. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.
I could prove God statistically. Take the human body alone—the chances that all the functions of an individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity.
It is not as easy as one might suppose to rid oneself of the notion of God.
