The Greatest Preacher in Atlanta

Retired professor of homiletics Fred Craddock suggests a different vision of fruitfulness. Fred told me a story about a friend of his who wanted Craddock to go with him to hear “the greatest preacher in Atlanta.” Fred went and heard a sermon that was “not very good, really,” but he quickly understood that his friend valued the man’s preaching because the preacher had conducted a couple of funerals for members of this man’s family, had performed a wedding for another member, and had been a pastor to the family on many occasions.
