Dying is something we mostly shy away from in Western society. But as Christians, we are called to a different way of viewing the life to come. In his inspirational and insightful book, The End of the Christian Life, Todd Billings—who is living with incurable cancer—shares his thoughts on worship, specifically the Doxology, and how it will remain a part of Christian worship from one generation to the next:

One of my favorite parts of Sunday worship comes when I stand with the congregation and sing the Doxology. When young and old raise their voices together, the song becomes more than simply about us or our own lofty plans or even our own faith.

When we sing, we sing a truth about reality, the central truth of the cosmos—a truth that endures whether we confess it or not, whether we are alive or not, whether any humans join the angels in singing it or not. The Doxology adores the one God who endures.
