[Saint] Valentine was a priest in Rome when Emperor Claudius II began his hostile reign. Valentine was arrested for performing Christian weddings. While imprisoned, Valentine befriended the jailer’s daughter and healed her of blindness. Valentine was eventually sentenced to death and, on the morning of his execution, left a final note of encouragement and blessing to the little girl, signed, “From your Valentine.”
