As a non-farmer, I understand that it is a healthy process of the natural order for burning to happen. Burning must happen in order for new life to flourish. It seems counterintuitive that a fire, which kills plant life and endangeres animals within an ecosystem, could promote ecological health. Many ecosystems benefit from periodic fires because they clear out dead organic material. Furthermore, some plant and animal populations require the benefits fire brings to survive and reproduce. This is something that native Americans have known and practiced for a long time.
