The Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, in his book The Home We Build Together, points out to the reader that in scripture the description of the creation of the universe in Genesis is given a mere thirty-four verses. And yet, soon after this, there’s this strange episode in the book of Exodus that takes an entire third of that book, hundreds of verses long, that us moderns find a bit bewildering. That is, the instructions for the building of the tabernacle.
