Psalm of Lament or Psalm of Trust?
We’ve categorized this psalm under the psalms of lament. The psalms of lament highlight the problems and enemies that the psalmist faces. Psalm 91 lists a bevy of troubles that one might lament: pestilence, arrows, plagues, and hostile armies.
Those threats very well should warrant a lament to God from the one facing them. However, it would also be fair to say that this psalm belongs under the category of trust because while these external threats are lamentable, the psalmist never allows the one he addresses ample time to lament them.
