Ephesians 5:3-21

Context

We continue through the body of the letter as we move into a different image for practical, Christian living. Next week will become much more specific in Paul’s exhortations for living in relationship with others. This passage reiterates imitating Jesus in the lives of believers by using a different, common biblical contrast between darkness and light.

Mission Connection

The importance of witness continues in this passage, shifting to a discussion of light and darkness. Again, Paul lists behavior that isn’t consistent with godly living. And again, we shouldn’t read this as a list of things to do or not do in order to gain God’s love.
