Context—Looking Ahead

The next 2 weeks (Week 5 – 4:17-5:2; and Week 6 – 5:3-21) move into more of the practical application of what we’ve seen thus far in Ephesians.

The week after that (Week 7 – 5:22-6:9), while being the most difficult text to preach given our cultural context, will see a few, specific analogies or scenarios for practical application as well while focusing more on the mystery of Christ and the Church.

There is much in each of these 3 pericopes for fruitful preaching, but it is also important to keep in mind throughout the concept of hermeneutical shift: that in order to apply a text in our culture, we must have a grasp on what it meant for the writer and original readers in their cultural…
