Prayers of Invocation for Thanksgiving

Prayers of Confession on Thanksgiving

Almighty and Everlasting God, whom the heaven of heavens cannot contain, much less the temples which our hands have built, but who are ever near to those who are humble and contrite; grant to us your Holy Spirit, we ask you, to us who have gathered; that cleansed and illumined by your grace, we may worthily show forth your praise, meekly learn your word, render due thanks for your mercies, and obtain a gracious answer to our prayers; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Holy God, we gather this day trusting that your Holy Spirit is in our midst, and that this same Spirit that guided the apostles and prophets guides us here. Help us to see your goodness, and to live in gratitude for all that you give us. We come to worship today with thanksgiving, recognizing that every good and perfect gift comes from you.

Amen.

Lord of the Harvest,

We give you great thanks for all the work that has been done to make our lives possible. For those who work the fields of the earth to provide us with food, for those who work in factories to provide us with clothes and so many other necessities, we give you thanks. For those whose work enables us to think deeply, act justly, and worship truly, we lift our prayers. For all who work with their hands, their minds, we ask Holy Spirit, that you would imbue them with a sense of meaning and purpose, recognizing that all work, done faithfully, is done for the glory of God. Amen.
