Prayers of Invocation on Mercy

Sermon Illustrations on Mercy

Almighty and Everlasting God, whom the heaven of heavens cannot contain, much less the temples which our hands have built, but who are ever near to those who are humble and contrite; grant to us your Holy Spirit, we ask you, to us who have gathered; that cleansed and illumined by your grace, we may worthily show forth your praise, meekly learn your word, render due thanks for your mercies, and obtain a gracious answer to our prayers; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ever loving and eternal God, source of the light that never sets and of the love that never fails. Life of our life, Father of our spirits; draw near to us, and by the remembrance of your ancient mercies, and by the ministry of the Church, teach us and lead us nearer to you; by all our fears, by all our joys and sorrows, by life and death itself, teach us, and lead us nearer to you.. Amen.

Sovereign God. your power and your glory are beyond our understanding; your mercy is vast and your tenderness without end. Look in love upon us assembled in this house of prayer, and show your mercy and loving-kindness to all throughout the world who are united with us in thanksgiving and praise. Yours is the gory, and the power, and the honor, now and for all ages.

O God, your mercy is infinite and in your will is our peace. We learn your way so slowly; we choose your will so reluctantly. In this season of learning the limitlessness of your love, help us through the guidance of your Holy Spirit to learn the meaning of our Lord’s suffering and to choose his example of humility. Enable us to experience and to proclaim that you are mighty to save, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
