Prayers of Invocation on Light
O heavenly Father, the author and fountain of all truth, the bottomless sea of all understanding, send, we beg you, your Holy Spirit into our hearts, and lighten our understanding with the beams of your heavenly grace. We ask this, O merciful Father, for your dear Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.
Eternal Light, who has folded back the curtain of darkness and caused the dawn of a new day to brighten the earth, we ask you to gladden our hearts with your light. Give us the light of faith, that doubts may be dispelled like the mists of the morning; give us the radiance of hope, that we may reach forward to possess virtues we have admired from afar; give us the illumination of love, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name. We offer our prayer in the name of him who is the Light of the world. Amen.

Almighty and Everlasting God, in whom we live and move and have our being, who has created us for yourself, so that our hearts are restless until they find rest in you, grant to us purity of heart and strength of purpose so that no selfish desire may hinder us from knowing your will, and no weakness from doing it. In your light may we see life clearly, and in your service find perfect freedom. For your mercy’s sake. Amen.

Almighty and Everlasting God, who are the brightness of faithful souls and the desire of all nations; so fill the world with your glory and show yourself by the radiance of your light that all the peoples of the earth may freely follow you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see; grant that we may know you in him whom you have given to be the light of the world, our Saviour Jesus Christ, and in the joy of his gospel we may worship you in spirit and in truth. Amen.

Ever loving and eternal God, source of the light that never sets and of the love that never fails. Life of our life, Father of our spirits; draw near to us, and by the remembrance of your ancient mercies, and by the ministry of the Church, teach us and lead us nearer to you; by all our fears, by all our joys and sorrows, by life and death itself, teach us, and lead us nearer to you.. Amen.
