Prayers of Invocation on Desire
Almighty God, for whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty and Everlasting God, who are the brightness of faithful souls and the desire of all nations; so fill the world with your glory and show yourself by the radiance of your light that all the peoples of the earth may freely follow you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Gregorian Sacramental, adapted by Stuart Strachan Jr.
Be present, O Lord, to our requests; and as you give us a desire to pray, grant us, O most Loving God, your aid and comfort in our prayers; and may the souls which thirst for your promises be filled from your abundance; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Almighty God, who has given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common requests to you; and does promise that where two or three are gathered together in your name you will grant their requests; fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of your servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity – The Book of Common Prayer (1979)
Give us, O Lord, steadfast hearts, which no unworthy thought can drag downward, unconquered hearts, which no tribulation can wear out, upright hearts, which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow upon us also, O Lord our God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and faithfulness that may finally embrace you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
St. Thomas Aquinas
Make Us Wise
Glorious One, you alone are our Rock and Redeemer. We trust you, your Holy Word, your Holy Wisdom, to put all things in right relationship.
Make us wise. Let the words of our mouths be acceptable to you. Let our every desire be acceptable to you. Let the resting place of our hearts be acceptable to you.
Open us to your growth and guidance. May our renewal bring hope and peace to your world. May our rebirth bring you delight and glory, now and forever. Amen.
