Prayers of Invocation for Christmas Eve
O Lord our God, who first made light to shine out of darkness and now awakens us again to praise your goodness and ask for your grace: accept now, in your boundless mercy, the offering of our worship and praise. Make us to be children of light and of the day. Pour out upon us the riches of your mercy, so that we, redeemed in soul and body and steadfast in faith, may ever praise your wonderful and holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christmas Eve
Emmanuel, we listen to the story of prophets and angels,
young woman and carpenter, shepherd and magi, and we too come to Bethlehem for a blessing.
We are filled with love because you have taken upon yourself our humanity;
we are filled with hope because you have offered us your life and light;
we are filled with faith because all that is humble and vulnerable in us and in creation becomes holy this night.
Our salvation appears in sweet sacred surprise and we too respond,

O God of light,
You who dispel the darkness in the birth of your son,
May the light of your Son who has been birthed into history,
be poured forth in our hearts and may the darkness of the
world be pierced by the glory of his birth.
