Prayers of Confession on Worship

Dear Lord, we come to You today in worship and praise, knowing that You are God and King. You are worthy of our praise. We also come recognizing that we are sinners and stand here in need of You, our Savior. We have sinned against You and others and ourselves and have wanted to go our own way. We have been stubborn, controlling, and selfish, and have not been faithful to You. We confess that we haven’t been good witnesses of Your love and grace, and have not stood firm in our faith. We are so sorry, oh Lord; please forgive us. Change our hearts and cause us to repent and turn toward You. Fill us, Holy Spirit, making us new and whole. Wash us clean and breathe Your breath into us. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Holy redeemer, we come before you in repentance. For we get so caught up in discerning who is worshiping you correctly that we forget to worship you ourselves. Fill us with your Spirit so that we might know how you call us to worship you. Help us to worship you in spirit and in truth as we silently confess our sins to you now…

Heavenly Father, we confess that we often forget Who it is that we worship. You, Lord, are the great God Almighty and our Heavenly Father. Yet, at times, we deny that truth by living in fear and responding negatively to our circumstances.  For these transgressions we ask Your forgiveness and we also ask for Your strength. Remind us to be who You would have us to be regardless of our situations or our emotions. Give us eyes to see You as You really are so we might be bold witnesses in our world. We ask this humbly in Christ’s name.  Amen.

Dear Lord, we come before You as Your children to give You honor and praise. You are the One and Only true God, the Giver of life and the Sustainer of our souls. We are grateful for Your grace, how You love us, how you call us to be Your hands and feet. Responding to Your great mercy, we need to confess how we have sinned and fallen short of the people You  created us to be. We have said and done mean and selfish things, we have hurt others, and we have lived as if the universe revolves around us. We have strayed from our worship of You and gone our own way. We are sorry. Please forgive us. Cause us to truly repent and turn around to face You. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Lord of hosts, you call us to worship you. Indeed, you are so majestic – how can we help but worship you? Yet so often our worship is lukewarm, tepid, and passionless. Lord almighty, renew our fervor for you as we silently confess our sins to you now…

Gracious Father, we confess that we have all sinned and fallen short of Your glory. We have neglected and misused Your holy worship. We have dealt unjustly and unkindly with our neighbors. We have not sought first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. You have revealed Your wonderful love to us in Christ and have offered us pardon and salvation in Him; but we have turned away. We have run into temptation, and the sin we should have hated, we have committed. Have mercy on us, merciful Father. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your holy Name, Amen.

Gracious and loving God, You are always present with us. Your faithfulness knows no limits. You call us to worship You in spirit and in truth. Yet far too often, our worship is perfunctory. We phone it in. Our minds focus on other matters. What seems urgent at the time distracts us. Worship is one more item to check off our lists. Forgive us for our cavalier and casual attitudes. Remind us of the importance of praising Your Name, hearing Your Word, and enjoying Your presence. Restore to us the joy of true worship. We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Great and loving God, we know that one day all peoples will worship you on your mountain. We struggle to live into that reality. We turn inward, thinking mostly of ourselves rather than giving you glory. We often hold onto the resources you give us, even when we want to give back to you generously. We forget to praise you for the faithful saints who have come before us, and we long to follow their example more faithfully, as they followed you.  Forgive us, O God, for these and all our sins, as we continue to pray in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

O God, you are indeed worthy of our praise and worship. Yet we turn away and worship other gods. We find ourselves at the altar of our careers, our financial security, our self-image, our status. We take you for granted. You call us to live for the praise of Christ’s glory, but we often seek praise for ourselves instead.  Forgive us for these and all of our sins, as we continue to confess in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer of Confession for All Saints Day

Run beloved, run

Lay aside every weight

Every worry

Every excuse

Every inner critic shouting against inspiration

Lay aside the sin that clings so closely

Every self-serving motivation

Every self-medicating choice

Every weak thing you’ve trusted more than God

Lay them aside

and run

Run beloved, run

Run with perseverance the race

Looking not to the dust, but to Jesus

The Pioneer and Perfecter of your faith

Look not to the right or to the left

Look to Jesus

The congregation is invited to offer their own prayers of confession

Run remembering

You are forgiven

Joy is your strength

Run remembering

Him who endured

So that you may not grow weary

Or lose heart

For your strongest step is yet to come

Prayer of Confession for All Saints Day © 2022 Lisa Ann Moss Degrenia,

Dear Lord, You are the King of the world, the Creator of all things, and the Giver of life. You have made us in Your image and invited us to be Your children—the heirs of Your kingdom—and we give You our thanks and praise.   We stop now to confess that we have sinned and fallen short of what You would have us be. We have found our identity in earthly things like work, money, family, reputation, our homes, our friends, even our country.

We have worshiped them more than You. We have turned away from being part of Your Kingdom work to satisfy our own agendas. We have broken Your heart with our sin, and we are sorry. Please forgive us. Help us open our hearts to receive the gift of forgiveness that You offer through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Create in us clean hearts and fill us with Your presence. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Dear Lord, we come to You this morning first to give You our worship and praise. You are the King, You are the Lord, You are the one who did indeed create us and give us life. You never leave us. You are always reaching out Your hand to lift us up. We praise You. But we also come because we need to confess our sins to You, to open the hidden places of our hearts before You. We confess that we forget that You love us more than anything and that You call us to follow You alone. We too often arrange our lives around the idols of this world and not around You. We want what others have or what they tell us to want. We are afraid of rejection by the world, forgetting that You are the only one we need to serve. We look for love in ways that will never bring us peace or lasting joy. Please hear our silent prayers of confession……Lord, we are sorry. Please forgive us. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Lord, forgive us for putting aside our heart’s wild desire to worship You, whether for our own fear of embarrassment or the real threat of ridicule. Forgive us for not giving all we have toward your glory. We have not been nearly as grateful for your presence as we ought to be. We love you, Lord. Help us to love you more fully, fiercely, and readily today. Amen.
