Prayers of Confession on Transformation

Holy God, we come before You in humility, for we do not live as we ought. We do not love You with our whole heart and mind and strength. We do not love our neighbor as ourselves. We are sinners in need of rescue and transformation. So we pray, in all humility, that You will change our hearts and minds, that You will show us again how to love others the way You love us, that You will grant us the grace to experience your Spirit’s guidance and love, that You will put power and courage in our hearts to do Your will. This we pray in Jesus’ Name and for His sake. Amen.

O God who will not let us go, we confess that we have been so wrapped up in ourselves that have not loved You with our whole hearts, and we have not loved our neighbors as we love ourselves.  By Your grace and through Your transforming love, open our hearts wide to You; forgive what we have been, help us change what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of your holy Name. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Holy God, we know that you created us in love, to enjoy this world and You, to serve your creation and your children. And we know that we do not do your will.

With clenched hands, we can neither give nor receive.

With eyes tight shut, we cannot see pain or beauty.

With feet of clay, we cannot dance in joy or run to help.

We ask for your help and your power to change. Open our hands and eyes, move our feet, toward grace and hope and trust in You.

This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Loving God, you love us so much that you invite us to a life of transformation. You call us to live outside ourselves, and to follow you more faithfully with each day that passes. We confess to you that we often fail to grow closer to you, and to grow together as a church. Please help us to humble ourselves to the point where we are willing to be transformed for you. Please renew our desire to faithfully follow you as we silently confess our sins to you now.…

Gracious and faithful God, You have created us to love You, You have redeemed us to belong to You, You have gifted us to serve You. But we are a fickle and double-minded people. Sometimes we bear good spiritual fruit, but other times our hearts are hard, our worries are immense, and our wills are weak. Forgive us for our sinfulness. Transform our hardened hearts into a rich and fertile ground where Your Word can take root. Restore us the joy of Your salvation. We humbly ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Gracious God, we don’t live as Christ did. Although You give us specific instructions for an ordered way of life that stands out from the rest of the world, we settle for lukewarm Christianity. Our lives reflect our culture and we don’t transform it. Please help us to be more obedient as we silently confess our sins to You now…

Loving and forgiving God, we want to answer your invitation to experience a Christ-centered life. Yet all too often, our lives are much more centered around our ourselves than around Jesus. Jesus sends us out to transform the world in love, but we are hesitant. Forgive us for the indifference and even hatred we show to others. Forgive us for forgetting that your Spirit empowers us. Pardon us for these and all of our sins, as we continue to confess in silence…

Loving and forgiving God, we confess that we find it easier to follow the crowd than to follow you. We seek the praise of other humans, rather than seeking to give you joy with our faithfulness. When you call us to display values which do not make any sense to the world, we often disobey. Forgive us for these and for all of our sins, as we continue to pray in silence.

Merciful God, loving Father, you govern all things in heaven and on earth and make all things new through your almighty word. Transform our sinful nature and all that we do by the power of your Holy Spirit, that we may please you, and attain perfect joy. We silently confess our sins to you now…
