Prayers of Confession on the Way

Lord, You are the great provider. Your Word tells us to trust You and You will direct our paths, but we often forget Your faithfulness and promises found throughout scripture. Forgive us, Father, when we stray from Your plan. Your way is the path to joy, peace, and abundant life. Give us the strength and courage to choose You rather than choosing ourselves. Draw near to us when we doubt, and give us eyes to see Your hand at work in our lives. You are good and faithful always. Amen.

Holy God, we come to confession realizing that we are often aware of the big sins in our lives, but we ignore the sins we think are small. We ask Your forgiveness for times when we have been apathetic, indifferent, impatient, judgmental, dismissive, entitled, and mean. We pray for the ways we have been blinded by our possessions, blinded by our anger, and blinded by our loyalty to self instead of to You. Forgive us and remind us that we are called to a different way of life. We know that being Your disciples involves dying to ourselves so that we can live for You. In the shadow of Your grace we pray. Amen.

Adapted from Psalm 80

Shepherd of Israel, God of hosts,

we have turned away from you,

neglecting the welfare of your creation,

ignoring the plight of your people,

trampling on the creatures and the plants you have made,

taking from Earth what we cannot give back.

We have not helped our neighbors in need,

kept peace within our families,

or tended the vine you have planted in our own lives.

Forgive us and lead us to a more gracious life.

In your compassion, turn us to your way.

Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;

let your face shine upon us, and we shall be saved. Amen.

Marvelous and merciful God, Your Son modeled leadership and servanthood for us. But we confess we have elevated our desires and plans over Your will for our lives and for Your world. We want authority and power over others to use for our own purposes. Forgive us for our half-hearted devotion and our double-minded attention to Your way. Remind us You desire servants first and foremost. Enable us to serve in the name of Jesus, the One who came to serve and to give His life a ransom for many. In His name we pray. Amen.

The grace of God overflows for us through Christ Jesus, who came into the world to save sinners. We therefore, confess, holy and merciful God, our failure to be what you created us to be. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love. By your loving mercy, help us to live in your light, and abide in your ways as we silently confess our sins to you…

Inspired by 1 Peter 4

Almighty God,

In Jesus Christ we see the one who walked perfectly in the will of the Father, even as it led to his suffering for our sake. We, too, are called to walk in your ways, yet we live for human desires. We are called to live in faith, but we act like those who believe there is no God. Forgive us for our sinful rebellion and draw us back to yourself. Lead us in ways to better listen and obey, to love neighbors and offer service without grumbling, and to be faithful stewards of your amazing grace.

We pray in the name of Jesus our Lord, amen.
