Prayers of Confession on Thanksgiving
Almighty God: you love us,
but we’ve not loved you.
You bless us,
but we’ve not thanked You.
You call,
but we’ve not listened.
We walk away from neighbors in need,
wrapped in our own concerns.
We condone evil, prejudice, warfare, and greed.
God of grace,
help us to admit our sin,
so that as you come to us in mercy,
we may repent, turn to you, and receive forgiveness
for our sins, especially those we now acknowledge
in the quiet of our own hearts: (Silent Confession)
… through Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
You are the God of
Abundance, Provision, and Plenty
Yet
So many do not have enough
So many are burdened by far too much
So many squander what they have
So many do evil to get more
The “many” include me
Lord, have mercy
Help me choose
Collaboration over competition
Gratitude over greed
Rest over hustle
Generosity over fear
Help me choose You and Your ways, always
Time of silent confession

God of justice and mercy, we come before you tonight in humility. We consider the first Thanksgiving meal, a time of celebration and unity, yet our country is filled with division. All too often, we do not do the difficult work of building bridges and seeking unity. Please forgive
us for the times we’ve made false assumptions, for the times we’ve been complacent with injustice, and for the ways we focus on ourselves rather than seeking you. Lord please help us to see your presence in all of the church. Please help us to find new ways to partner together in service of you and the world as we silently confess our sins to you now…

Gracious Father, in this season of thanksgiving, remind us of the truth that every good and perfect gift comes from You. God, we admit that even in our moment of gratitude, we fall short. We feel thankful for the gifts without acknowledging the Giver. We praise the beautiful creation around us without drawing close to the Creator. We sing about our salvation without glorifying You – our Savior. Forgive us. Remind us, oh God, that any good we experience is only a glimpse of Your character. That any blessing is only a foretaste of what You have in store for those who put their hope in You. And that even our lives– the very breath in our lungs– is only there because of Your deep love for us. God, reveal Yourself to us in every good gift, and give us eyes to see You in them. In Christ’s holy Name we pray. Amen

Loving God, you show us grace and mercy, again and again and again. You shower gifts on us that we could never earn, and you are slow to punish us when we most deserve it. All too often, we forget to give you thanks. We take your grace for granted, and we assume your mercy will always be there. Even worse, we are so slow to share your grace and mercy with others, out of gratitude for what you have done for us in Jesus Christ. Forgive us for these and all our sins, as we continue to pray in silence…
Silent Prayer
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Gracious God, on Sundays we come to this place and you fill us up with your goodness and light and we are renewed. But when we go out into the world, we fall short in so many ways. We confess that we are easily influenced by temptations and we fall prey to all kinds of sins. We are broken people who constantly lose focus on the cross of Christ. Forgive us for taking for granted the gift of the sacrifice of Your Son on our behalf. Thank you for being the Good Shepherd who always brings us back. Please transform our hearts and lives to live every day in the image of Your Son, Jesus. In Whose name we pray, Amen.
Heavenly father, your faithfulness and love endure forever, yet our gratitude fades on a daily basis. For your blessings that we see and fail to acknowledge, please forgive us. For your blessings that we fail to see and fail to acknowledge, please also forgive us. Lord of goodness, please open our eyes to all that you do as we silently confess our sings to you now…

Eternal and Almighty God, To You is due all our praise and thanksgiving. You are a gracious, loving Lord! But we create false gods we choose to worship. Money, power, and pleasure guide our steps, not Your life-giving Holy Spirit. We put our trust in our efforts, not in Your grace and truth. We value what our culture offers, not the clear teachings of Scripture. Forgive us for our idolatry, O God. Help us to live as Your Son’s disciples to the glory and honor of Your name. Through Christ we pray. Amen.
