Prayers of Confession on Strength

Adapted from Psalm 32:1-7

Pastor: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

All: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.

Pastor: I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

All: Therefore, let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.

Almighty and Merciful God, the Fountain of all goodness, who knows the thoughts of our hearts, we confess to you that we have sinned against you, and done evil in your sight. Wash us, we pray, from the stains of our past sins, and give us grace and power to put away all hurtful things; so that, being delivered from the bondage of sin, we may bring forth the worthy fruit of repentance.

O Eternal Light, shine into our hearts. O Eternal Goodness, deliver us from evil. O Eternal Power, be our support. Grant that with all our hearts, and minds, and strength, we may ever more seek your face. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, we trust in our own strength, abilities, and resources. We think too highly of what we have to offer this world. The truth is we cannot do anything without your strength and all we have to offer is yours. Gracious God, give us the humility to see that all is from you and for you. May we live lives of gratitude and grace, that others might see your great love.

Gracious God, forgive us today for the times when we don’t trust You to help us grow. Even though You nurture us daily, we often choose to live in our own strength, ignoring the plans You have for us. Help us to place our trust in You as you we silently confess our sins to You now…

Gracious God, you love us deeply yet we take your love for granted. Rather than trusting you, we trust the gifts you have given us. We confess that our misplaced hope and reliance is on money, intelligence, and resources. Help us hope, trust, and lean into you. Grow our love for you, that we might rely on you, and be more generous with all you have given to us.

Lord, grant us the strength and courage we need to overcome our weaknesses so that one day we can stand before You and hear You say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

We ask these things in the Name of Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

We confess, loving God, that all too often we do not open our lives to the power of your Holy Spirit. We tend to ignore the Spirit rather than call on its fire to burn within us and strengthen us for our life with you.  We limp through life, drawing strength from poor substitutes, and wondering why our faith lacks the vitality we desire. Wrap us up in the Spirit’s arms, that we would joyfully welcome the divine wind rushing through us.  Forgive us, O God, for these and all of our sins, as we confess in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Loving God, this morning we bring You our confession. Hear us, Lord. We confess we have gone astray. Shepherd us, Lord. We confess we often love You half-heartedly. Make us whole, Lord. We confess we trivialize Your sacrifice. Give us perspective, Lord. We confess we find most of our strength in ourselves. Be our strength, Lord. We confess little zeal for Your glory. Give us passion, Lord. We confess we’ve done so many things wrong. Forgive us, Lord. We confess we often don’t love You well. Love us, Lord. We ask these things in the Name of Jesus Christ, who exchanges our confession for abundant life in Him. Amen.

Lord Jesus, your life shows us how you want us to live. So often we know exactly what it would take for us to become more like you, and yet we sit back, rather than taking a step toward your holiness. Lots of times you make the pathway of faithfulness obvious to us, but we stumble away from the road to sanctification. We need your strength, living Lord Jesus, so that we can live into our call as well-loved disciples who become more and more like you. We repent of our complacency, and ask you to  forgive us for these and all of our trespasses.  We continue now to confess in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
