Prayers of Confession on Palm Sunday

Loving God, On this day, Your Son entered the rebellious city that later rejected Him: we confess that our wills are as rebellious as Jerusalem’s. Our faith is often more show than substance. Our hearts are in need of cleansing. Have mercy on us, Son of David, Savior of our lives. Help us to lay at Your feet all we have and all we are, trusting You to forgive, to heal, and to receive us as Your own. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church

Jesus, you are our king, yet we do not act like it. You came in humility, to serve and give your life for the world. We do not follow your example. We live our own way and reject yours. We only claim allegiance to you when it’s convenient, when it serves our interests. On this Palm Sunday we are reminded of how quickly our loyalty to you diminishes. Please forgive us for our hypocrisies and apathy. Please give us passion for you as we remember your passion for us this week.

Almighty God, you are king of everything. You are Lord of our lives. You control the stars in heavens. And you humbled yourself to be a servant to us. In response to this, we continue to reign as kinds and queens in our own lives, choosing to command our own destiny. Please show us your mercy as we silently confess our sins to you now…

Almighty God, in Jesus, you meet us where we are. You condescend to our level, yet we wrongfully assume that we are equal to you. We live as rulers of this world masters of own destiny, ignoring your will, and harming others. You alone are worthy of praise and devotion. Even when we do recognize your lordship, it is only fleeting. How quickly we resume our old way of life and live for ourselves first. On this Palm Sunday, we offer again our allegiance to you as you as we come to you silent confession.
