Prayers of Confession on New Life
Loving God, you are the author of all life. You created the heavens through the words of your mouth. You also are constantly creating new life. However, we don’t accept the new life you give us. We choose to live without hope. Please help us to see that in you, we are made more than conquerors of all that seeks to destroy us. Please forgive us for our lack of faith as we silently confess our sins to you now…

We praise You for Your goodness and love. Forgive and correct the wrong we have done. We have turned from the way of Your Son Jesus, and we have not cared for our neighbors. We have permitted pride to blind and anger to burn. We have failed to live the new life You have given us. We come to You with little to offer except our sin, and we seek Your mercy through Jesus Christ our Lord. In His name we pray. Amen.

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men: We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against Thy Divine Majesty, provoking most justly Thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake. Forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please Thee In newness of life, to the honor and glory of Thy name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The General Confession from the Book of Common Prayer, 1662:
Disturb us, O Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, O Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, O Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land, We shall find the stars.

This prayer also works well for the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18)
Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner.
I have failed to love as You Love
I have treated others as objects and obstacles
– less than human
– less than bearing the image of God
I have elevated goals, persons, and things to the throne of my heart
I have procrastinated allowing fear to postpone your good work
I have wasted your precious gifts of time and talent and money
I am proud in unhealthy ways
I am too comfortable peacekeeping rather than peacemaking
I am privileged and have much to learn and unlearn,
center and decenter,
for my words and actions to actually help
I have raised myself too high
Hid myself too low
Trusting in you and your promises
I call on your Mighty Name for mercy
I ask your forgiveness, Gracious Savior
I surrender to your healing, Great Physician
I claim your resurrection power, Risen One
Time of silent confession
Jesus, Merciful and Mighty,
You are already here
Calling me from the old to the new
Speaking my name
Welcoming me to table
Offering me a new path
Hallelujah! I will follow

Prayer of Confession and Pardon for Easter
Risen Christ,
The world despised and rejected you
You responded with grace, humility, and welcome
The proud questioned your power, devised your death
You responded with peace, forgiveness, and new life
Forgive us, Merciful One
Our arrogance
Our selfishness
Our scheming
Our violence
Forgive us, Merciful One
We are like them
Make us like you
Time of silent confession
Risen Christ,
We claim your grace, your mercy, your forgiveness
We claim your resurrection power:
Dying, you destroy our death
Rising, you restore our life.
You come now with saving power
Alleluia. Amen.
