Prayers of Confession on King/s

Inspired by Mark 4:26-34

Leader: King Jesus, you taught your disciples a great deal about your kingdom, and we confess that we have thought much more about our own kingdoms than about yours. In fact, you are the king over all creation, and we are not.

People: You are the King over all creation; we are your humble servants.

Leader: We confess that we have acted like the kings and queens over our lives, and we have not regarded your reign nearly as much as we ought. In fact, we have tried to keep your sovereign rule as far away from our lives as possible.

People: You are the King over all creation; we are your humble servants.

Leader: We ask that you renew our hearts to love and cherish your authority and power. We want to obey you, we want to serve you, and we want to follow you.

People: You are the King over all creation; we are your humble servants. Help us love and worship you. Amen.

Dear Lord, we come to You today in worship and praise, knowing that You are God and King. You are worthy of our praise. We also come recognizing that we are sinners and stand here in need of You, our Savior. We have sinned against You and others and ourselves and have wanted to go our own way. We have been stubborn, controlling, and selfish, and have not been faithful to You. We confess that we haven’t been good witnesses of Your love and grace, and have not stood firm in our faith. We are so sorry, oh Lord; please forgive us. Change our hearts and cause us to repent and turn toward You. Fill us, Holy Spirit, making us new and whole. Wash us clean and breathe Your breath into us. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

(Prayer of Adoration)

Lord of yesterday, today and tomorrow:

You alone rule the universe;

setting times and seasons according to Your will.

While nations and king come and go,

You, only, are King of kings and Lord of lords;

immortal and all-knowing,

never lacking power and wisdom.

You are strong; and you are good!

Therefore, we joyously and reverently call you God and King.

(Prayer of Confession)

Yet, in spite of all we know of You –

we are stubborn and rebellious still.

We think ourselves wise – disregarding Your truth.

We think ourselves strong – using violence to force our will.

We think ourselves right –writing-off others and refusing to

learn from them.

We think ourselves good – ignoring our corruption and evil;

pointing fingers and wagging tongues at others.

Forgive our arrogance minds, self-centeredness hearts

and ungracious spirits.

Take away our hearts of stone;

replace them with hearts of flesh,

hearts that best after Your own heart.

In silent moments, hear us confess what we’re too ashamed to name aloud – forgive and free us, Lord:  (Silence)

Dear Lord, You are the King of the world, the Creator of all things, and the Giver of life. You have made us in Your image and invited us to be Your children—the heirs of Your kingdom—and we give You our thanks and praise.   We stop now to confess that we have sinned and fallen short of what You would have us be. We have found our identity in earthly things like work, money, family, reputation, our homes, our friends, even our country.

We have worshiped them more than You. We have turned away from being part of Your Kingdom work to satisfy our own agendas. We have broken Your heart with our sin, and we are sorry. Please forgive us. Help us open our hearts to receive the gift of forgiveness that You offer through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Create in us clean hearts and fill us with Your presence. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Lord, our King, we confess our tendency to build homes and kingdoms that are more for us than they are for you. We confess the pride we take in our own security and ability to protect and to preserve. We would construct a home for you, to control your presence and power in our lives. In your mercy, forgive us of our grasping for the divine and for our failure to understand that all that we have and all that we are is solely because you build the house and you establish the kingdom.

Dear Lord, we come to You this morning first to give You our worship and praise. You are the King, You are the Lord, You are the one who did indeed create us and give us life. You never leave us. You are always reaching out Your hand to lift us up. We praise You. But we also come because we need to confess our sins to You, to open the hidden places of our hearts before You.  We too often arrange our lives around the idols of this world and not around You. We want what others have or what they tell us to want. We are afraid of rejection by the world, forgetting that You are the only one we need to serve. We look for love in ways that will never bring us peace or lasting joy.  Please forgive us. In Jesus’ Name we pray.

Dear God, You are the King, You are the Lord, You are the One who delivers us from the darkness. You are our Maker and our Redeemer and our Comforter. We give You praise. You are all-wise and You know us inside and out. We come to You now to open the doors of our hearts and let You into our hidden places of darkness and sin. We confess that we have said and done things that are against Your will and that have hurt others. Among other things, we have stepped on other people, acted selfishly, and said hurtful things, falling short of who You would have us be. We also confess that we have often been too busy to stop and listen to Your voice. We don’t act on the promise to rest in You. Lord, we are sorry. Please forgive us. Holy Spirit, fill us with Your hope and peace. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen

Dear Lord, we worship You as our God and King, as the One true God, as the faithful Guardian of our souls. We come to You in this time of worship to stop, to breathe, and to listen. We want to open our hearts to You and share the secrets we keep, our sins, and our lack of faith.  We lay it all out before You. We confess that we have sinned and are in desperate need of You, Jesus, our Redeemer. We have followed the enticing idols offered by the world instead of worshiping You alone. In the safe place of prayer, Lord, hear our hearts speak. We are sorry; please forgive us. Holy Spirit, come inside our hearts and transform us by Your love and forgiveness. Fill us with Your grace and hope.  In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
