Prayers of Confession on God’s Will

It’s too easy for us, God to place other things before you. We fail to completely follow your will, we live for ourselves, and we settle into sinful ways of life. Please help us to see that there’s more to life than living for ourselves. Please give us the courage to make you number one as we come to you in silent confession of our sins…

Heavenly Father, we confess that our sinfulness gives us fear and keeps us from pursuing your will.  We live with ideas of safety and failure that do not make room for your call to set our lives aside for your sake.  Jesus promises to be with us, so we ask to be strengthened by your Spirit to step out of our comfort and into his arms.  Forgive us for our shortcomings and free us to follow you.  Hear our confession as we continue our prayer in silence…

Heavenly Father, it is astounding how many ways we find to doubt You. At times we doubt Your power and Your ability to do actual miracles in our lives. In other situations, we doubt that Your methods and solutions are indeed the best way to go. We fool ourselves into believing that our ways will be superior to Your ways. And, most importantly, we doubt that all You are doing for us is the result of a great love for us. Our heads believe in Your love, but our hearts are lagging behind. Have mercy upon us, Lord. Help us with our disbelief. Forgive us for looking through worldly eyes instead of asking You for heavenly vision. Thank You for Your endless grace and patience. More than anything, we want to walk in Your will. We pray all of this in the precious Name of Jesus. Amen.

Gracious God, we know Your Word, and value Your love, but we don’t find it natural to trust Your purposes, especially when tests and trials interrupt our plans. When we doubt Your goodness, forgive us. When we question Your loving presence, forgive us. Remind us of the trials and tests You faced, taking our sin to the cross so that we might be reconciled to You now and forever. Renew us in the grace and strength of the Holy Spirit, through Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

Merciful God, we confess that we have often failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love. We have not loved our neighbors, and have refused to hear the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray, and free us for joyful obedience; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gracious God, you tend to the earth as your vineyard, longing for it to bring fruit. You want our society and our lives to look more and more like the Kingdom of Heaven. We work against your plans, sometimes by what we do, and sometimes by what we leave undone. We abuse the land, take advantage of the weak, and turn a blind eye to the poor. We fight against your purposes, and we need your forgiveness. Pardon us for these and all our sins, as we continue to pray in silence…

Silent Prayer

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, give us hearts that wait with faith.  Build in us the assurance that you are at work and in control.  Forgive us for our impatience, our uneasiness, and our wandering desires when we do not feel that we have what we need.  Help us to see and to rejoice in the fruit that you are bearing in our own lives and in the lives of those around us—in the small things as well as the big things—and guide us to rest our concerns and anxieties in you.  We pray these things in the name of the one who shows us your peace, Christ Jesus.  Hear us as we continue our prayers in silence…

Gracious Spirit, you are at work all around us. You prompt us to follow you, and you convict us when we have missed your leading. Please forgive us for the times that we miss your presence. Please humble us when we think we can control your will. Soften our hearts to be more perceptive to your presence as we silently confess our sins to you now.…

Holy God, we know that you created us in love, to enjoy this world and You, to serve your creation and your children. And we know that we do not do your will.

With clenched hands, we can neither give nor receive.

With eyes tight shut, we cannot see pain or beauty.

With feet of clay, we cannot dance in joy or run to help.

We ask for your help and your power to change. Open our hands and eyes, move our feet, toward grace and hope and trust in You.

This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Most Merciful God, we join our voices in this prayer of confession because we realize that we are united with each other in our sinfulness. We all sin in ways that are unique to us as individuals. We say and do things that go against Your will for our lives. Forgive us for thinking we are better than others. Forgive us for considering others’ sins worse than our own. Forgive us for being so quick to recognize the sin in others, yet slow to see it in ourselves. Grant us the humility of spirit and the gladness of heart that comes from knowing that Jesus died to take away the sins of the world. Touch our lives with Your healing grace and create in us clean hearts. We pray these things in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Almighty and most merciful Father, we are thankful that your mercy is

higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings,

deeper than all our sin. Forgive our careless attitudes toward your purposes, our refusal to relieve the suffering of others,

our envy of those who have more than we have,

our obsession with creating a life of constant pleasure,

our indifference to the treasures of heaven,

Help us to change our way of life

so that we may desire what is good,

love what you love,

and do what you command,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
