Prayers of Confession on Fickleness

Merciful Lord, You are holy, You are mighty, You are worthy of praise! Holy Father, You are majestic, You are powerful, You are awesome in every way! We have seen Your glory, And experienced Your joy. But often our hearts are fickle, and the awe and wonder of Your saving grace becomes common and mundane. In Your mercy, please forgive our sin; cleanse us from our unrighteousness and heal our wayward and feckless hearts. We find hope and comfort in Your promise to forgive. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Loving God, we confess today: We don’t even know what love truly is. We talk about love when we talk about favorite television shows and foods. We talk about love as if it happens to us. We describe love as a feeling. But you describe love your very nature, the core of who you are. You describe love as an act of self-sacrifice. Please broaden our understanding of love as we silently confess to you the times we haven’t shown love…

Loving and forgiving God, we confess that we find it easier to follow the crowd than to follow You. We seek the praise of others, rather than seeking to give You joy with our faithfulness. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry. Grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.
