Prayers of Confession on Commitment

Gracious and loving God, we confess that despite Your presence with us, we are reluctant to go forward in faith in our daily lives. We don’t want to step out of the boat. We’re afraid to walk with You. We’re doubting, troubled, and timid. We lack commitment and trust. Forgive us, O Lord, for our sin. Renew within us a vivid awareness that You are with us. May this awareness make it possible to go where You want us to go, to do what You want us to do, and to give Your name glory. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

How quickly our loyalties fade, oh God. We proclaim you are our Lord, but lives do not reflect that truth. We pay you homage when it’s easy, but live our own way when we feel like it. We praise you today and forget you tomorrow. Lord, please forgive us for our tepid faith, and kindle the fires of passion within us to follow you even when it’s costly. We come to you, silently confessing our sins now.

Time of silent reflection.

Gracious and Loving God, we come into Your presence asking for Your forgiveness. Forgive us for aspirations that never get translated into action and for promises that we have not kept. Forgive us for having good intentions that were not fulfilled and for the good deeds that we never got around to doing. Grant us a new vision and help us to move from intention to action. Help us, Lord, to keep our eyes on You and to be faithful in all that we say and do. In Christ’s Name we pray. Amen.
