Prayers of Confession on Blindness

We praise You for Your goodness and love. Forgive and correct the wrong we have done. We have turned from the way of Your Son Jesus, and we have not cared for our neighbors. We have permitted pride to blind and anger to burn. We have failed to live the new life You have given us. We come to You with little to offer except our sin, and we seek Your mercy through Jesus Christ our Lord. In His name we pray. Amen.

God of healing, we look for you in all the wrong places. We assume we have figured out how you are at work. Because of this, we miss out on seeing your glory, and we fail to join with you as partners in your mission. Please heal us from our spiritual blindness as we silently confess our sins to you.

Time of silent reflection and confession..

Submitted by Austin D. Hill

Holy God, we know that you created us in love, to enjoy this world and You, to serve your creation and your children. And we know that we do not do your will.

With clenched hands, we can neither give nor receive.

With eyes tight shut, we cannot see pain or beauty.

With feet of clay, we cannot dance in joy or run to help.

We ask for your help and your power to change. Open our hands and eyes, move our feet, toward grace and hope and trust in You.

This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(Prayer of Adoration)

Lord – Creator, Savior and Sustainer:

You called our names and we answered.

When we were lost – You found us.

When we were sick – You healed us.

When we were blind – You opened our eyes.

When we were dead in our sin – You died to give us life.

That’s why we are here; that’s why we praise You.

(Prayer of Confession)

Yet too often we overlook all that you’ve done for us.

We become self-consumed,

loving ourselves too much,

others too little and You hardly at all.

In Your grace and compassion:

hear the silent confession of our own sins,

and forgive us, we pray.  (silence)

We search for joy and meaning in our world. We look for it in our careers, our social circles, and along many of our paths in life. But these things are often fleeting, and our search is unsustainable. God forgive us for not seeking Your kingdom first. Remove those blinders that prevent us from seeing what You are doing in the world and in our lives. Help us to have our eyes focused only on You. May we seek the ultimate treasure which is Your salvation. Help us to trust that we are a forgiven people, who find joy in the assurance that we are Yours. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Gracious God, Who pours out freely the gift of Your Holy Spirit: We confess before You that we have failed to recognize this most valuable gift. We have been satisfied with ordinary things, suspicious of unfamiliar things, and blind to spiritual things. Cleanse and forgive us, O Lord. Burn away our presumption and self-sufficiency. Open us in faith to receive the renewing touch of Your hand. Through Christ we pray. Amen.

Holy God, we come to confession realizing that we are often aware of the big sins in our lives, but we ignore the sins we think are small. We ask Your forgiveness for times when we have been apathetic, indifferent, impatient, judgmental, dismissive, entitled, and mean. We pray for the ways we have been blinded by our possessions, blinded by our anger, and blinded by our loyalty to self instead of to You. Forgive us and remind us that we are called to a different way of life. We know that being Your disciples involves dying to ourselves so that we can live for You. In the shadow of Your grace we pray. Amen.
