Prayers for Illumination on Hope

Sermon Illustrations on Hope

Blessed Lord, you have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning—grant us that we may in such a way hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them; that by patience and comfort of your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, 1552

Adapted from Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV)

O Lord,

Show us your ways, Lord,

Teach us your paths.

Guide us in your truth and teach us,

for you are God my Savior,

and my hope is in you all day long.

Blessed Lord,

who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:

Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them,

that we may embrace and ever hold fast

the blessed hope of everlasting life,

which you have given us in our Savior, Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,

now and forever. Amen.

O God our Father, who sent your Son to be our Savior: renew in us day by day the power of your Holy Spirit; that with knowledge and passion, with courage and love, with gratitude and hope, we may strive powerfully in your service: may he keep our vision clear, our aim high, our purpose firm and our sympathy wide; that we may live as faithful soldiers and servants of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Holy and gracious God, may your Holy Spirit give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation,  so that, with the eyes of our hearts enlightened, we may know the hope to which Christ has called us, the riches of his glorious inheritance among us, and the greatness of his power for those who believe.   Amen.
