Prayers for Illumination on Eternal Life

Blessed Lord, you have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning—grant us that we may in such a way hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them; that by patience and comfort of your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

As I repeat these words of your disciple Peter, let us believe them in our hearts: Lord, to whom can we go?

You alone have the words of eternal life. Help us to hear your word and put them into practice, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.
