Opening Prayers/Prayers of Adoration on Endurance
Prayer for Holy Saturday
There are so many things we do not understand
So many ways we long for change and closure
Help us to trust you
even when the situation is desperate and out of control
Help us to follow you
even when the way unclear
Help us to wait and rest
even when every bit of us screams to act
Build in us a faith that endures
Even when we can’t see you
Or feel you near
Or understand
A faith that endures the waiting
The grief of now and not-yet
The ache of in-between
The pregnant pause
Your power and goodness are never diminished
Morning is coming

We Cry, “Glory!” based on the Parable of the Sower
Lord of Life
You sow extravagantly
Generously
Some would cry, “Foolish”
We cry, “Glory!”
You sow your Word
Your Promises
Your Salvation
Your Self
“Glory!” to your grace and mercy
You save us from the stealing
The shallow
The choking thorns
“Glory!” to your deliverance and power
You make our lives good, rich soil
Ready for your seed
In you, we grow up and increase and yield
“Glory!” to your goodness and faithfulness
We rejoice in you and in being your harvest
Help us bear your good and lasting fruit
now and always,
for the honor and glory of your name. Amen

Father: You know us and love us from eternity.
Jesus: You love us enough to die for us
and be rise again to give us eternal life.
Spirit: You pour out love to us every day, in every way, in all places.
We praise and thank you, God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – for:
Your love is “patient and kind”.
Your love laughs when we laugh;
And Your love weeps when we weep.
Its endurance has no limit.
Its trust is endless. And its hope never fades.
Your love outlasts anything.
It’s the one thing left standing when all else has fallen.
That’s how you love us … thank you!
(Prayer of Confession)
But we fail to love like that.
Our love shifts with each change in the winds of fortune.
It’s impatient and selfish;
Given mostly to ourselves, sometimes to others,
And if there’s any left over – maybe we love you a little, too.
Prayer Based on 2 Corinthians 4:5-12
This prayer could be offered by a single voice, a group praying in unison, or as indicated with a single voice on the regular print and all voices on the bold print.
Yes, we are merely clay jars
But within us is treasure
The extraordinary resurrection power of Jesus
Hallelujah! Glory to God!
Yes, we are afflicted
Yes, we are confused
But within us is treasure
The extraordinary resurrection power of Jesus
We are not crushed
We do not give in to despair
Hallelujah! Glory to God!
Yes, we are persecuted
Yes, we are knocked down
But within us is treasure
The extraordinary resurrection power of Jesus
We are not abandoned
We are not destroyed
Hallelujah! Glory to God!
Yes, death is constantly at work in us
Yes, we are chipped and cracked, frail and mortal
But it is nothing compared to the brutal death and suffering of Jesus
It is nothing compared to his victorious resurrection
His extraordinary and endless life is at work in us
We are his treasure
We wield his power
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory to God!
