Leader: Oh God, You have been so gracious to us. You have given us so many wonderful gifts—they outnumber the stars in the sky! You have kept Your promises to us, and You have been faithful!
People: But we, O God, have forgotten Your grace and Your faithfulness. We try to domesticate You, to try to fit You into our own agenda and plans, rather than follow You as Lord. The ways that we try to mold You to fit our own plans end up harming us. We think that we are our own god and king, but that’s who You are. We cry out for forgiveness, merciful Father!
Pause for personal confession for the idols that we hold on to and how we try to fit the Lord into our own agenda…
Leader: Hear the good news! Through Jesus’ death in our place we receive forgiveness. Heavenly Father, continue to be faithful to Your promise to love us, to walk with us, and to teach us.
People: Strengthen us so that we may love, trust, and obey You only, our gracious God. Amen.
