Prayer of Confession

Leader: In the beginning God created all things

People: and God saw that they were good.

Leader: When we examine ourselves in light of God’s perfect law, we come face to face with the darkness of our sinful condition.  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 

People: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9

Leader: Let us confess our sins to the Lord, seeking His grace and forgiveness.  Silence for personal confession

Lord God, You created the world and it was good.  

People: We confess that by our sinful disobedience we have marred Your creation and cut ourselves off from You. Instead of loving You with our whole heart, we have worshiped idols of our own making.  Instead of following Your commands, we have chosen our own path. Instead of listening for Your voice, we have foolishly tried to hide from Your presence. Have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: God has not abandoned His creation; His faithfulness and love endure forever. Just as He rescued Noah and his family in the ark, so too He provides a refuge for those who trust in Him. Through the mercy of Christ Jesus, God remembers you, but not your faults or your sins.  They have been drowned in the sea and are no more.  

People: Amen. Thanks be to God!

Leader: Hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love,

People: and with Him is plentiful redemption. Psalm 130:7
