If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves

Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
People: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Pastor: Scripture warns us that there will come a time when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
(Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination.)
Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.
People: God of Truth, we confess that our itching ears too easily listen to the lies of the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh.  In rebellion we have turned away from the truth of Your Word, believing it to be inconvenient, irrelevant, or too difficult to follow.  For the sake of Jesus, have mercy on us and grant us Your forgiveness. Sanctify us in Your truth; Your Word is truth.
Pastor: Hear the Good News and cling to this truth - You have been redeemed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Your sins are forgiven!  Through Jesus' suffering and death for you, He has brought you to God, declared you righteous, and granted you the gift of eternal life with Him.
People: Amen.  Thanks be to God!
