Pastor: God’s plans are indeed faithful and sure. In this Lenten season we have been focusing on God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah to transform their barren and lifeless situation into one overflowing with promise and hope. Today we see how they grew impatient for His timing and chose to pursue their own selfish plans and desires, unleashing a cycle of relational brokenness.
As we examine our hearts, we must confess with Abraham and Sara and all generations to follow, that the cycle of brokenness continues. For we too have ignored God’s call, doubted His faithfulness, and chosen our own plans instead of His promises.
Silence for reflection on the Word of God and for self-examination.
Pastor: Almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth,
People: we confess that we are by nature sinful. We have failed to love You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Instead of trusting in Your promises, we have let fear, doubt, and pride direct our steps. For the sake of Jesus, forgive us. By the power of Your Holy Spirit cleanse our hearts and minds that we might walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
Pastor: Our heavenly Father loves us with an everlasting love. His covenant with us is true; He is faithful even when we fail. In His mercy, God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior, to pay for our sins with his innocent suffering and death. By His death He destroyed death, and by His rising opened eternal life to all who trust in Him for forgiveness. May God strengthen you in your Lenten journey toward the joys of Easter.
People: Amen.
