Confession & Assurance of Pardon on a Bigger Story

Leader: As Christ’s Church here on earth, we are invited to be a part of a bigger story, welcomed as members of a larger community, and called to a greater mission.  In humble repentance we must acknowledge that we do not always embrace or live out the faith to which we have been called. 

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

People: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 

Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination

Leader: Merciful Father, we have not been the Church You call us to be.

People: We confess that we have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions.  We have been content to simply go to church, while neglecting our responsibility to BE the church. We have selfishly taken Your salvation for granted, and failed to bring the story of redemption to the world around us. Forgive us. Renew us by Your Spirit so that we might walk with You and bring glory to Your name. 

Leader: Church of God, rejoice! God has brought His salvation into the world through Jesus. In His mercy He has given His Son to die for us and, for His sake, forgives us all our sins. Through His Holy Spirit He cleanses us and gives us power to proclaim the mighty deeds of our God who called us out of darkness into the splendor of His light. Be at peace, your sins are forgiven!

People: Alleluia! Amen!
